If you only want help polishing a
document, we can fix spelling, punctuation, grammar, and
awkward sentence structure.
Andrea has always been a good
speller.
HOW WE
CHARGE FOR SERVICES
We have been editing
books since 1990. We may charge by the project,
by the hour, by the page, by the word
or by the error
found and fixed.
Estimates are provided after seeing the document or
manuscript, understanding the full scope of the project and
determining the complexity of the work. Feel free to state
your budget upfront.
A $300 deposit is
required for new clients.
Services are listed in
order of most simple to most complex:
- Final proofreading before printing
- Fact checking (figures, names, titles) Sometimes included with proofreading.
- Copy editing (spelling, grammar, punctuation, clarity)
- Content editing (organization, style)
- Rewriting of how-to manuscripts

WHAT TO
EXPECT
We make
corrections directly on your Word document manuscript pages
using "Track Changes"
in Microsoft Word. When you
receive the edited or proofread copy you can see easily the
deletions, insertions, corrections and comments we made,
and accept or reject whatever you choose.
OUR
2025 SERVICES AND RATES:
Our
rates
may increase July 2026, so it makes sense to commit now
even if you haven't finished writing your manuscript before
2026.
We
devote no less than 20 hours on a full-length book (perhaps
60,000 words), and often several weeks, to your manuscript;
therefore our rates, by comparison, are usually less than
if we charged by the hour. And the quality of our work is
on par with – and often superior to – other editors.
PROOFREADING
ONLY Catching misspelling and
typos before the final
printing. We are often called in
after other editors have completed their work on your
manuscript. Example:
A 60,000 word book could be $300 to $600.
COPY
EDITING for spelling, grammar,
punctuation, clarity, omissions, redundancy,
and
FACT-CHECKING
Checking
accuracy of facts such as names, chronology, ages, foreign
words, statistics, etc. Example:
A 60,000 word book could be $1,200 to $1,800.
REWRITING
AND
CONTENT EDITING Substantial writing from
draft document. Example:
A 60,000 word book could be $2,500 to $3,000.
Rates increase for Express
Services: 24-48 hour turnaround or
weekend assignments. Add
another 25% to 100%.
As always, you own the
copyright to your work.
HOW TO START
1. Send your document
in confidence for an estimate
and indicate your not-to-exceed
budget and
your
expected delivery date.
2. When you are ready to have us start, kindly prepay your
$200 deposit to ensure your place in our schedule of
assignments.
